Question: Does your beef jerky have preservatives?:


Answer: Our products are all natural, No MSG or Sodium Nitrite. We make all of our marinates with locally sourced ingredients . We do use some salt but only enough to help preserve the meat and not overpower the flavours. Drying is the major preservative.

Question: What is the shelf life of your beef jerky?:


Answer: Because most of the moisture is removed through drying, it is shelf stable and can be stored without refrigeration, making it a handy food for backpackers and others who don't have access to refrigerators. Our packaged jerky, unopened, has a shelf life of about 6 months. We are being conservative because we want you to have the freshest product available.

Question: Is your beef jerky available in stores?:


Answer: We have several Stockists that have different locations throughout the United Kingdom. We do not sell to big Supermarket chains like ASDA, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Tesco. We also sell online through this website.

Question: Why is beef jerky such a good snack food?:


Answer: British Beef Jerky is a quick and healthy high-protein snack food. It's a fantastic "on the go meal" or snack whether you're working or enjoying biking, hunting, fishing or hiking. Beef jerky doesn't contain the high calories as in other fast food products. Our beef jerky contains NO artificial ingredients. Our beef jerky is made from lean British beef .

Question: If your beef jerky is high in protein, low in fat - is it a good snack food for one of the high protein diets - such as the Atkins Diet? :

Answer: British Beef Jerky is a perfect choice for any of the high protein diets - including the Atkins diet. Our beef jerky has a high protein content and is low in fat and low in carbohydrates. The Atkins diet and British Beef Jerky are a perfect combination for those of you trying to loose weight with a high protein diet. Many of our customers who are on the Atkins diet and have reported being successful in losing weight.

Question: How Can I keep it for a long time without refrigeration?:


Answer: Two things are needed to allow mold to grow. Air and moisture. The old timers never had plastic vacuum bags to keep their jerky, they just kept it in places where air could circulate about it. The cowboys and Indians kept it in pockets or on the clothes line. Plastic vacuum bags used to keep air off the jerky works for a certain length of time. But when you open the bag (or the jerky pokes a small hole in it), it lets in air with some added moisture. It will eventually mold unless you freeze it or open the bag to dry the accumulated moisture . The plastic is necessary when freezing the jerky to prevent freezer burn.

Question: How should I store the jerky?:


Answer: Place any un eaten jerky into an airtight container and it will keep for weeks. Just keep moisture away from it. Jerky acts like a sponge when subjected to humidity.

Question: Why is your Beef Jerky drier then the Jerky i buy at ASDA, Sainsbury's, Morrisons or Tesco ?:


Answer: The Jerky that the big supermarkets handle is all commercially made and imported. They use sodium nitrite as a preservative, among other things, ( they can achieve up to 18 months shelf life using this but it changes the texture of the meat leaving it moist and it has a very distinctive flavour ), and MSG ( Monosodium glutamate ) as a flavour enhancer ( using MSG they can use less flavourings ). We make our Jerky the old traditional ways. We marinate the Jerky for a few days and then we hot air dry it in order to remove most of the moisture and lock in the flavours of the different marinates. All of our meat is hand cut and inspected before we marinate it. We then hand cut and inspect the jerky before we package it. We make all of our Jerky right here in Northumberland. All of our meat comes from Northumberland , Durham and Yorkshire hence the name British Beef Jerky. We do not use any imported meat .

Question:I live in the United States. Can you send your Jerky to me?:
Answer: No. We can not send British Beef to the United States due to USDA regulations and neither can U.S. Beef be sent to the U.K. because of DEFRA regulations. People tell us all of the time that they get American Jerky sent to them plus they can buy it in supermarkets in the UK. We tell them to look at the packages closer and they will see that it might have been processed in a U.S. facility but the origin of the Beef is South America. Processed South American Beef can be imported into the U.K. Read the packaging well. From the ingredients to the origin of the meat. At the present time we only ship to EU member states

Question: What is the difference between Biltong and Jerky?:


Answer:

Biltong differs from Jerky in two distinct ways:

  • The meat used in biltong can be much thicker; typically biltong meat is cut in strips approx 1 inch wide - but can be thicker. Jerky is normally very thin meat.
  • The vinegar and salt in biltong, together with the drying process, cures the meat as well as adding texture and flavour. Jerky is traditionally dried with salt, pepper and other spices along with marinates.
  • Biltong produced in South Africa may not be imported into Britain, according to rules governing the importation of meat-based products from non-EU countries laid down by Customs & Excise department. However biltong made in the UK can still be purchased in the country.
